CBD Bath Soaps: How To Find Quality Suds

CBD Bath Soaps: How To Find Quality Suds - Tub Therapy

CBD has already proven its worth in the health and wellness conscience. With so many people discovering the benefits of CBD, it’s no surprise that an entire industry is now dedicated to products that incorporate this wonder supplement. As one of the newest trends in beauty and skincare, you can find everything from shampoo to lotion - and even toothpaste - with CBD infused!

One of the most sought after CBD topicals in the market today are CBD bath soaps. CBD bath soaps come in many different shapes, scents, sizes, ingredients and CBD strength. With so many options available, it can be hard to find the perfect super bar if you don’t know what you’re looking for.

To help you navigate the market for the best CBD bath soap, this article will walk you through the main things you should look for so you can shop with confidence and get your money’s worth.

First, what is CBD and why is it a thing?

Cannabidiol (CBD) is a naturally occurring compound extracted in the hemp plant and accounts for up to 40% of its extract. CBD quickly gained ground due to anecdotal evidence of therapeutic benefits such as reducing anxiety, chronic pain and insomnia. When mixed in skincare formula, CBD has been touted to alleviate a myriad of skin issues such as dryness, acne, wrinkles, redness and rashes.

But wait, is it legal?

As of the enactment of the 2018 Farm Bill on December 20, 2018, hemp-derived CBD has been removed from schedule I of the Controlled Substances Act and is no longer a controlled substance. However, legality at the federal level will depend on how much THC is present. CBD with more than 0.3% THC is still considered illegal, as THC remains a federally restricted Schedule I substance.

Certificate of Analysis

If you want to avoid any chance of ingesting THC, look up the Certificate of Analysis before you add it to cart. A reputable CBD brand will get its products tested by a third-party lab and have COAs readily available for shoppers to view.

The COA is one of the most important factors to consider when purchasing anything CBD as it serves as a form of quality control. The COA will confirm whether the product contains the correct strength  of CBD that the brand claims and most importantly, it will inform you of the product’s THC level. A COA should come from an ADHS and ISO-certified lab and not the manufacturer or brand to ensure accurate and unbiased results. Remember, if a CBD retailer doesn’t have third-party testing by an accredited lab, it isn’t probably worth purchasing.

CBD Type

If the product contains THC, it most likely uses a full spectrum CBD which is the most popular (and most expensive) CBD type of its kind. Your choice of CBD type will depend on your lifestyle, personal preference and usage.

Full spectrum CBD contains all of the naturally occurring compounds of the hemp plant including THC. If you want to reap the full benefits of the cannabis plant and don’t mind consuming some THC, opt for a full spectrum CBD product to enjoy the ‘entourage effect,’ a term used by researchers suggesting that CBD works better and is more effective when taken together with other cannabinoids and organic compounds.

Broad spectrum CBD also has all of the naturally occurring compounds of the cannabis plant except for THC. Although broad spectrum CBD is THC-free, it only contains the minor compounds that make full spectrum CBD so great.

CBD Isolate is the purest form of CBD. As the name suggests, the CBD is isolated from the other compounds of the plant so it is completely THC-free.

Most CBD users look for  full spectrum CBD because they want the whole bit of the cannabis plant with all the cannabinoids and other compounds working in synergy. Others choose broad spectrum CBD because they want all the other bits of the plant but no THC. CBD isolate is the cheapest option and whose effects are least notable so it is mostly preferred by CBD starters and those testing the waters.

While CBD bath soaps may come in varying CBD strengths, aim for at least 50mg of CBD which is a comfortable enough strength to consume topically. Since water may dilute the concentration, some may prefer a higher dosage of at least 200mg of CBD but take note that a quality bar of CBD soap doesn’t always mean maximum strength CBD.

Ingredients

Once you’ve made a decision on the type of CBD and level that’s best for you, you’ll want to check the ingredient label next. Your skin is your body’s largest organ and deserves the best care so it's really what’s on the inside of the soap that makes a lot of difference. This makes choosing the best skincare not a vanity but a sine qua non.

Whether CBD or not, a superior-quality soap will contain a wide variety of premium plant-based extracts and organic food-grade base oils with no synthetic fillers, preservatives or chemicals that can strip your skin of its natural oils. One way to tell if your CBD soap is 'organic' or ‘natural', is to read its ingredient list.

Some of the core ingredients should include olive oil, soybean oil, sunflower oil, coconut oil and natural fatty acids like organic shea butter. High-quality natural ingredients that are good enough to eat will cost a lot more than cosmetic grade lower quality oils so a high-quality CBD bar of soap will most likely come with a heftier price tag.

Price

Most CBD products will cost somewhere between $0.15 and $0.50 per milligram of CBD or $15 to $50 per bar of soap. Typically, the higher the CBD dosage, the higher the price. Although CBD soaps can be more expensive, they actually last longer than your conventional counterparts especially if made via the cold process method. This is unquestionably the best way to make great soap as it keeps all the nutritious value of the ingredients in tact.
